Default Run kid...Run!!

Hi All,

I took this shot while I was walking on a coffee shops strip with lots of families and kids around.

I've overexposed the picture intentionally... The question is: is it a bad effect? should i just use theoriginal exposure? Because I thought it looks cool like that.

Canon 450D
18-200 f/3.5-5.6 IS
f/4.5 @ 18mm
1/30
ISO 100

Comments please... Thanks in advance

Peace!

Well, I wouldn't consider my feedback 'expert' but I can offer an opinion.

I'm sorry to say that the shot really doesn't work for me since the subject is not really in focus. I would also prefer to see the horizon straightened and a tighter crop on the right to remove the blurry child and move the subject out of center frame.

The color of the subject's clothing has potential to draw the eye, but I think the background is a bit too bright and draws attention away from the subject.

It's hard to say if it's better overall than the original exposure without having the original for comparison. But that's just my $0.02.

I'm no expert either, but although I agree that a small crop on the right side might enhance the photo a little, I really like this photo. Maybe a little soft focus on the child, but that to me adds to the atmosphere of the shot telling the story of a running child and that's what this shot is about. I like the overexposure effect, but maybe that's just my opinion, and since the child appears to be in the proper orientation, I don't really mind the angle of the background.

I'm no professional, but there's my take.

Thank you guys for taking some of your time and posting your valuable opinions.

I've cropped it a bit and desaturated the background so that the kid's colored shirt can stand out...

As for straightening the horizon I will try that, but I thought that this gives movement more impact as incline or decline in the path (which was true in reality).

I tried sharpening it but it didn't give any big difference, also too much sharpening will be obvious... Still the res. of this pic is very low (640x480), so the pixels will show eventually when I resize it to a smaller version like the one attached.

If there is anything else I would love to know from you out there (an expert opinion is not a MUST) I value all opinions

I think the shot is prety good except for the overexposure that i am not shure about.
For the other posts saying that the kid is not properly in focus, i think they are wrong since this is a great motion capture. I do enjoy the second one croped out, it works for me.

Hi, I would absolutely cut out the blurry child on the right. To me it definitely takes away from the subject of the photo. I do like the panning effect with the child running...I wish it was a little more exposed, mostly for the details in the concrete he's running on.

Good concept, but I think the subject isn't sharp enough. I could live with the blown out background if some part of the child were sharper.

Panning shots of people running are difficult. You normally don't nail the focus on the first shot. Take lots of shots in burst mode, you may get one that you like.

A different concept of the same photo might also be interesting... Blown out background and an almost completely blurred photo of the child running. Kind of an abstract thing.

hmmm, I think I should have used "AI SERVIO" for focusing instead of the "One Shot" option.

I tried sharpening it but It didn't help much.

Yes you should have used AI Servo. In fact the only time I use One Shot is when I am taking portraits of adults or photographing products.
