Default Under the Lights

I took this two summers ago. I think it was about 9:00pm so it was nice and dark and the temperature was about 100 degrees I think. I had no intentions of displaying anything I was shooting. I borrowed a friends Canon 20d and was just taking some snapshots of my sons game.
One of his teammates was on deck and I just happended to be sitting behind home plate on the ground behind the backstop. I had to shoot this through the fence and if you look closely you can see the fence blurred out in the picture.
It really doesn't have that pizzazz though. What could I do with this to make it a memorable picture? More contrast? B&W? Wash it out a little more?....
Feel free to edit at will and maybe I will learn something from watching you guys do it.
I am finding this out about photography......I enjoy taking the pictures MUCH more than I do the PP work! Anybody else like that?

You know I like this shot. Maybe you could crop out some of each side to make it more verticle. but I kind of like the behind the player shot. I took something similar at my sons hockey game from behind the goalie and you can see the crowd in the background. Might have been cool if you could see some of the other players but then you would loose the lights. Nice job given the darkness too.

Did you have a UV filter on the lens by any chance? The flare are the bottom of the pic is distracting, especially where it's placed. Try removing the filter next time to see if that goes away.

I noticed that glare too but there is no filter on the camera. I don't know what caused that.
