Default Panning Attempt

I attended the recently concluded AEROINDIA2009, and tried lots of panning shots, one of which i am posting here. Please let me know how it turned out, what are the areas where I can improve...you can have a look at other shots in my picasa web album.

From AERO INDIA 2009

Camera: NikonD80
Exposure: 1/160
Aperture: F10
ISO: 100
Focal length: 300mm

Ill be honest first and say that panning is something im still struggling to get right as well. But its seems to me that on this attempt that is not much motion portrayed in the jet. I would try to see if you can get the jet to show up in the right side of the frame with a little negative space on the left to show the motion of it moving...but like I said I know thats easier said than done

Seeing the whole jet would be nice with a litle space behind.
A longer exposure would show more motion.

Yeah, I know what you mean ! But those photos are the ones I took of the jets, when they were flying, which were relatively less tougher (I won't say easy..my finger was aching the whole day). Thanks for your kind words Mack! I am posting another one now, a slightly better one (at least that's what I think of it...). Please have a look...

I like negative space in front of the jet to give it some place to go. I'd also prefer to see the entire jet in the frame.

When shooting blur of action photos, you are trying to be creative with the blur.
1. Shoot slow shutter speeds to assure a blur (try 1/60, 1/30, 1/15, and 1/10 of a second.
deliberately move or shake the camera during exposure.
You can also shoot blur of action photos in one of three ways.
1. remain stationary and shoot the subject as it passes.
2. move along with the subject as it passes.
3. remain stationary and pan your camera as the subject moves parallel to you.
