Default Yearbook worthy?

I shot this at the varsity basketball game at my school. The home team is the team in white. As the editor of the basketball page, I'm wondering whether this picture is dominant photo worthy. There are more games coming up and the deadline isn't for another week or two. Should i just use this and send me pages off or wait and hope I'll get a more exciting picture?

Camera: Canon 40D
F-stop: f/2.8
Shutter: 1/125s
ISO: 1600

I'd try catching another one. Although the yearbook is about people in the school and their activities, I think you are more capable of capturing a more exciting photo, and one that is in better focus. Not sure of your camera settings but try shooting in a higher speed if you can.

Oh. Yeah I noticed it was pretty blurry. Just curious whether that blurring added to the picture or took away from the intensity.

Too OOF for the yearbook. You shutter speed is way to low to get a focused action shot. I don't know what lens you are using but if you have an 85 1.8, that will do wonders.

I was using a friend's 16-35 2.8. Oooh, that 85 1.8 is just inside my budget.

For a 'dominant photo' I would rather see one that had more of the home team and less of the opposition. Just a thought.

mistermundo, Welcome

While agreeing with all above, I think I see why the ballhandler's expression would make a good contribuition. But those "once-in-a-lifetime" shots come much more often than you'd imagine. In focus is better, try some more.
