Exclamation Night Time Back Boardslide

centralia skate shoot 410

Camera: Canon EOS Digital Rebel XSi
Exposure: 0.005 sec (1/200)
Aperture: f/3.5
Focal Length: 18 mm
ISO Speed: 1600
Exposure Bias: 2/3 EV
Flash: Flash fired

Hey guys,
drove down to centralia for a shoot over the weekend, shot well into the night so the lighting was tricky even with the park lights on.

just wanted some general critique on composition, lighting etc.
thanks in advance everyone!

I like it a lot. The framing is good and I don't mind the blown out spot, I like it in fact. But I think you could make this a vertical crop because there's too much black space on the right. I like the desaturated crunched look, but in this case the contrast may be a little too high, you're losing a lot of detail in the dark spots.

Great shot overall!

Talking A fan!

As it a night shot I like everything about it, except, and I think I mentioned it in another one of your recent posts, the grain is distracting on the large version I looked at on Flickr. I know you had to use a high ISO because it was so dark but your skate shots are so well composed and thought out I think you should be investing in an extra flash that you can mount close to the rails and set off remotely. It'll mean you can reduce your ISO as the camera is getting the extra light it needs off of the subject, and not have to rely on floodlights etc. which confuse even the most modern of cameras like a Wildcat offense on a Charger!

I honestly really like your work and in a way, you could actually create a very nice style out of it but you must make sure you keep all other techniques tip top so it doesn't' look like you've been lazy and not thought about the speed.

Steve
