Capture from last weekend. Appreciate any thoughts you may have. Was taken at ISO 400, 1/2500, 4.0, and 190 mm.

Sun was off to the left as you can see and I have a very busy background. I'm tempted to bring it into PS for some layer work to blur the background further. I thought about cropping in tighter to eliminate more background and capture the intensity a bit better, but balancing that with cutting players body parts. I need to be better with my shooting angles at these youth games to avoid the parent's sideline more.

Its a pretty good shot. with the ball in the air like it is, it is hard to tell what is going on. The background isn't too bad. You could try to get a lower view point. get down to their hip level. Check out some of my soccer pictures. Not sure if they would be any help or not...

The main distraction is the #40 who is plonked in the middle and not adding anything to the shot.

The thing with sports like soccer is that you have heaps of shots like this and you just have to keep following the action to get keepers.

The easiest way to get rid of a background is to shoot wider open and let the DOF do the blurring for you.

Yeah, I just noticed you have an f/2.8. you should shoot wide open.

Good capture...you need to crop from waist up. Puts more emphasis on the action.

Thanks very much for the feedback guys. Gturner, I know what you mean. There were definitly better/cleaner shots that came out of this game, but I didn't want to give up on this one. Why? The eyes. Love 14's eyes. That's why I was struggling with the crop because so many times cropping out body parts is considered a no no but in this case it would help emphasize that more. Jim, you cemented that one for me. Thanks!

How do you crop so tightly and keep the image quality from blurring?
