Default Fall Soccer

I took this shot with my Nikon D3000...220 mm, ISO 800, 1/640 sec, f5.3...I bumped the ISO up to 1600 in later shots but the pics came out too grainy...just bought the 55-300mm telephoto (which I love)....I recently started taking photos of my kids' sports, so I'd greatly appreciate any comments, suggestions or advise for future events!

To me it is a little "tight".
The players feet being cut off is not good and the play seems to be running off the edge of the page..

When shooting try leaving a bit of room around your subjects and PPing crop for maximum effectiveness and give the play room to move into (ie; I feel more space on the bottom left would look better.

However that's a good start.

Nice job. I think you had a fast enough shutter speed to freeze the ball movement and the players. It is a little dark so maybe a brightness adjustment would help. I agree that you need the feet in the picture as feet are very important to the game :-). Also, I think the activity to the right of the taller player does not add to the picture. I think it would have worked better to frame the shot starting from the taller player and working left, leaving space for those three kids to move with the ball.

I've been recreationally shooting a competitive soccer team (U18) where game times vary. This picture was taken 9/10/11 at 4:51p (EDT). My point, I guess is that you could probably shoot as low as 1/320th and still have players frozen. With that being said you could LOWER your ISO without losing much more. I'm saving my pennies to get a better 300mm lens, but this was with the kit zoom lens. Obviously not a great lens, but it can take acceptable photos.

EXIF info for this show:
Canon T1i
f/t
1/400
ISO 100
90mm Focal Length
No Flash

I shoot in JPG/RAW, but this pic was SOOC and cropped in a generic viewer.

Thanks for indulging me.

Gary
