I took this shot with my Nikon D3000...220 mm, ISO 800, 1/640 sec, f5.3...I bumped the ISO up to 1600 in later shots but the pics came out too grainy...just bought the 55-300mm telephoto (which I love)....I recently started taking photos of my kids' sports, so I'd greatly appreciate any comments, suggestions or advise for future events!

To me it is a little "tight".
The players feet being cut off is not good and the play seems to be running off the edge of the page.. When shooting try leaving a bit of room around your subjects and PPing crop for maximum effectiveness and give the play room to move into (ie; I feel more space on the bottom left would look better. However that's a good start.

Nice job. I think you had a fast enough shutter speed to freeze the ball movement and the players. It is a little dark so maybe a brightness adjustment would help. I agree that you need the feet in the picture as feet are very important to the game :-). Also, I think the activity to the right of the taller player does not add to the picture. I think it would have worked better to frame the shot starting from the taller player and working left, leaving space for those three kids to move with the ball.
