Default First Time Air Show

Went to the annual air show and was super excited to to photograph the event. First off I have never done this before and didn't really know what to expect. My lens could only zoom into 200 mm until I upgrade later. I think that for what I had to work with I did ok but I know it could be much better. I tried to fill the frame with not only jets but with their smoke trails. I made some minor adjustments with lightroom 3. Overall how is the exposure and composition and what can I do to improve my exposure next time?

Aperture f/9.0

There are several others that I would like to share as well. Visit my flickr account and let me know what you think if you feel like it!!!

I'm far from an expert, but I would have perhaps slowed the shutter speed down so that the props were not "frozen".

Nice shot though!

I would have slowed the shutter to around 1/250 - 1/300 giving the props motion as well as cropping the image down.

Agree with the above, bring your shutter speed down and pan with the planes.

Heres a link on here to my first airshow, i used a sigma 50-500mm, you cant see the set on flickr anymore as i dont have a pro account. I know how hard it is and played all day to try and get it right!

I agree that a tighter crop would likely enhance the photo, allowing you to truly fill the frame with the planes and smoke.

Also - I'm not sure if you noticed this or not, but you have some sensor dust that is showing up in your image.

As most people have already said, a tighter crop would do wonders for this image. Using what you had though, this turned out to be a really decent shot. With a little PP it can be even better.

@mrteacherdude - I'm glad you said that, because it's getting into the early hours of the morning here and being tired, I thought that my screen was dirty, so I started trying to wipe my screen off thinking there were spots on it -_-
