Default Dragracing

Hi all, ok was and shot some dragracing a while back and captured this one, I like it but what do you think, is it a good photo or is it a crappy one? the photo is made with panning. I have a hard time to see if the photos I take are good by a pro standard or if they right out suck.

Is this how the composition came out of the camera, or is this cropped after the fact? If that's composed as-shot, it's not bad. If it's cropped, I'd leave a little more room to the left for the car to "drive into" so to speak.

Otherwise, nice colors, good pan getting the racing car sharp while streaking the background. I'd just like to see the car somewhere other than smack dab in the middle of the frame.

Thank you for the comments, the photo is not cropped, im not sure how to crop this one for more interest. The other car is just entering the frame so any advice would be perfect....

I personally wouldn't crop it any tighter than it already is. If you tried to get rid of the entering car on the right, you'd lose the tail of the subject car. The grass at the bottom helps define the track lines, so I wouldn't cut that.

Sometimes, what you've got is the best you'll get. If you're using a centered single-point focus mode on the camera to auto-focus, next time try shifting the focus point to the side where the vehicles approach. That should cause you to shoot them a bit more to one side and leave some negative space for them to move into.

Nice panning. The car is sharp and everything is blurred nice. I can't comment on anything technical as I am a newbie. I personally would find it more appealing if it were in a different position on the track like maybe with just the trees in the background. All the white blurred whatever they are and the orange cone I find a little distracting from the actual car.

Thank you for the input and advice, the white banners in the background is advertisement and yes the place is not the best. I agree with you on the distractions, I was not permitted to go closer to the track.

I will remember this and train on it. Thank you
