Default Skateboarder in waiting - Crit pls!

Hey there guys,

I took this photo this weekend at a skate comp, and I'd really appreciate some crit. I'm still very new to photography, so I don't know where to look for mistakes yet, but I really like this photo, and I'd like to know what I could've done to make it better.

Details:

Nikon D80
50mm
1/4000
f/1.8
ISO 200

Thanks guys!

I like the composition and the lines. The only thing I would have changed was the f/stop. I know what those blurry blobs are in the background, another skateboarder ready to go and a person on a bike, but someone else that doesn't know the sport might not realize what they were.

Oh wow, I didn't even think of that. To be honest, I didn't even notice those. I was intentional about making sure that the background wasn't relevant in the photo.

Thanks, I appreciate the critique

I quite like it, I do agree the bike is a bit distracting though. I don't think anyone could miss the fact it was a bike, no matter how shallow the DoF.

Honestly I think it's great! I like the composition and the blur and the details. The only issue (and it's slight) for me is the reddish blur that points in line with the athlete's toe. It's best to keep more of a similar looking background behind the main detail of an image.

Keep up the great work!

Awesome photo. I wouldn't change a thing about it.

Very nice, like this shot a whole bunch. The color and composition suit the subject very well.

If it were mine, I would play around in post to reduce the red/black area above the sneaker to blend more with the black-whitish background (I.e., clone tool etc.), which might be less distracting.

However, the image works quite well as is... Nice one!
