Panning at trotter race

All,

I know there a couple of things to be fixed in the background: post growing out of the horse's head, the ad banner behind the driver.

My main question: Does the panning work for you? Did I hit the right speed or would you like to see more / less blurring?

I selected this photo because the horse is in mid-air and all legs are off the ground, which in combination with the blurring brings across the essence of trot racing.

Its a very nice capture! Panning works for sure cause your main subject is quite sharp while everything else is blurred. I would suggest bigger aperture and faster shutter speed maybe 1/300 or even 1/500 in order to have your main subject completely sharp besides the wheels which will give the motion effect. I would also try to keep the horse and the driver in the middle but thats just my opinion.

many thanks. I'll give it a faster shutter speed next time I am at the races.

About the your suggestion to put them more in the middle: I thought it was nicer to give them some space to trot into. But then again, that is matter of opinion.
