Default My son fooling around on his bike (Out of Focus a little ?)

Hi Everyone ! This is my first ever post. I'm new to photography. I'm trying to master action shots, mostly Rugby League actually. Do you think this shot is acceptable or still a little out of focus. Any other problems i need to address will be appreciated. I'm only using a Canon 1000d with a standard 75-300mm f4.5. Im thinking of buying a new set up very shortly. .Thinking of a Canon7D with a 100-400mm L series for day time use and a Sigma 70-200 2.8 for night. Im a little restricted by $$$$. Im very happy to see all you wonderful photographers giving all your time and experience to all us newbies. Thankyou Wayne PS: This is in a jpeg format , how do i retrieve all the other technical info from the photo etc.

I think that is a great capture. Focus is fine!
What is your EXIF for the shot and what mode where you shooting it?

This shot is awesome. Great timing. I think focus is fine as well, but the grass appears a little noisy. Perhaps the contrast could be bumped down a little to reduce this?

I agree with most of the above, although to me, the image looks really heavily over-sharpened. You said you're shooting RAW, so you're processing these using some software. I'd pull back on the sharpening. It's one of those things where you shouldn't see it unless it's not there, if that makes sense. The effect should be a subtle improvement in edge detail.

I agree, over sharpened. Great image, but the grass looks really bad and it's distracting. What a brave little man your son is!

Yes, I can actually see what you are saying now. I thought it was a little out of focus , so I guess I was a little greedy with the sharpen bar hehe.

I also take note on the quote "The effect should be a subtle improvement in edge detail"

I'm just starting out, and loving it !!!!! Thanks for your input people ..

to me it looks like you are very good with photoshop..it looks like the boy was placed on the photo..

the bike crashed in water at edge and the boy is in the air to high and in the angle that you wouldent be in if you were actually doing that. watch the x-games you will never see a professional fly through the air like that much less a kid off home made ramp.

but either way its a cool photo

I agree that it seems oversharpened - the other thing is that whilst the composition is good, and the ramp adds some exposition, is it necessary?

Might this be more interesting as a vertical crop, leaving a little room to the left of your son, cropping off the right into the splash of the bike and therefore creating it as a more dynamic image?

Just my .02
