Default LAX Shot

Does this work with only the backs. Not looking at the shooter head on?

The defender kind of ruins it for me. If it were just shooter v. goalie, the shooter's back wouldn't bother me, but as it is, nobody is really head-on.

Thanks for the feedback. That is kinda what I was thinking. However w/out the defender the guy shooting wouldn't be getting knocked over.

crop a tad bit tighter from the left hand side of the goalie to put more emphasis on him.

Just like the soccer example in another recent thread, I think a lot of important essentials are there...

You have the goalie/net (the shooter's objective), you have the ball in flight and you have motion on the other players. I'd experiment with cropping a bit and then, at least for me, you have an image that really shows the player taking the shot.

IMO the depth of field in this image is nicely effective for this subject matter.

You could also play around with a straightening tool (iPhoto, Aperture, Photoshop and others) to level up the fence line in the background and the vertical goal post. Finally, there is a stray foot on the bottom right of the image that could be cropped or edited out.

Just my thoughts...!

I think the fact that you can see the ball in flight and the goalie's eyes make up for the other two players having their backs turned. It is also obvious what each one is trying to do, so my answer would be that it does work.

Shots from behind do work, it's done all the time with great results. You actually have a great shot here, and I agree, the fact that the ball is heading towards the goalie, who is looking right at it with wide eyes, really makes the shot. Awesome body positioning on the guy who just took the shot.

Overall, you captured a great moment. Great job!
