Youth hockey is hard to shoot. I know because son played for 10 years and for 10 years I tried to get good shots.
The shot is underexposed because the ice is a little gray not white and there is not a lot of detail in the black of the jersey and gloves. This could probably be helped in PP. I would try setting the shutter at 1/500 sec and dropping the ISO to 1000 or 800 because 2000 is really high. I won't comment on composition because I have trouble with composition myself and I know this is probably a memory shot and not a work of art so you probably don't care if you followed all of the rules or not. Keep shooting because they are only young once and besides with digital it doesn't cost anything take 100 or more shots. When I was doing it I had film & processing to consider and with the cost of playing hockey I had to watch how much I shot, but I wouldn't trade my son's playing for anything because he loved it. Yeah, as a dad who's two boys are aging out of youth sports, I'm glad to have gotten the shots I did.
That seems like a great lens for sports. That you're able to shoot at 1/1800 is awesome; nice action freeze. If you shot this in RAW, you should be able to tease out some of those details. Otherwise, next time you could afford to slow down your shutter speed only without it getting too bright. This would be a great shot to make a Fathead. :-)
