Default Basketball

My first try at basketball without a flash. I took about 100 shots most on manual, not really happy with them. I used a Nikon D90 with a 50mm set at f1.8, iso 800 1/1000. White balance was on auto. Any help would be great.

Sorry windrider86, thank you for the welcome. Up until 4 years ago I was shooting film, got a point and shoot digital to join the rest of the world. Bought a Nikon D90 and a (prime) 50mm f1.8 few weeks ago to join the SLR digital world. I've been going through this forum like a wild boar learning everything I can. My camera was set on jpeg med. res. and I used iso 650-1000 and shutter speeds from 1/250-1/1000 at f1.8-2.8. The gym lighting was pretty good so I thought I could get away with faster shutter speed to help with my movement. Most of the pics were not sharp and clean, the ones that were had a soft or milky look if that makes sense. I could not tell this looking at my cameras monitor, but on my 17" laptop it did. I'm a hands on guy and learn quickly but have found out I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to this. If there's any information I need to post please ask. I may be ignorant and slow but I won't forget next time. If you open my picture in another window it works for a bigger image.

PS I am setting up a Flicker account also.

I am not sure, but the exposure on this one at least looks pretty good, and the white balance looks like it did ok on auto. If anything, I see quite a bit of noise, so that may be what you are seeing? If you don't like that, there are good noise reduction programs out there (either in PS or as a standalone) that can clean that up.

Hope that helps.
