I am a beginner and trying hard to learn all aspects of photography.
Since its human tendency to search the details in anything you see, My eyes are getting distracted by the activites of crowd behind the performer. I feel, a little bit of blur to the unwanted detail would help to get more attention to the performer. Regarding Composition, I feel it would be better, If you could have got a little closer shot with some facial expressions of performer.
I understand that its very difficult to get a best postion to shoot in crowded public show like this. Keep clicking and keep up the good work.

I'm going to go ahead and say that your composition works for me. Subject off center.
Overall though the subject is way too dark.
In this instance, I believe you would have benifited greaty from High Speed Sync Flash.
Here's link to a Canon Related article

Here's another detailed artice. Def worth the read if your interested yet much more detailed.

This way you can get your shutter speed up to freeze the action, yet still hit the subject with flash.

It's a good action scene. I would have put the subject in the bottom left portion of the composition. This would keep some of that gray street out of the photo, and given some interest to the background. It would also have kept the "horizon" (end of street and bottom of feet in crowd) from splitiing the picture almost in half. While not a slave to the rule of thirds, it generally makes a more pleasant composition. I also agree that in heavily shadowed sunlight flash would be helpful, but I don't know that high speed sync would have helped at that distance, as the power falloff is so great. I am not a high speed sync expert however, so I could be off on that one.

After reading about it in great detail lately, I'd say you are probably correct. The distance from the skater may have been a problem because of the flash's output at Hi Sync. So 1/250 (what it was shot at) may have been fast enough shutter speed to use Normal Sync.
I would have shot at both just to see the differences.
