Default Fetch!

Trying out some actions- here is my latest (also posted in SYS- sorry I want critique). What do you think? This was taken at dusk, so light was tricky....
Specs:
Nikon D7000
Shutter: 1/400
f/4.8
ISO 1600

OK.... Im curious to the genral composition of this image, the DOF, and the bluriness to the ball. I was thinking that the ball should be solid, but i can also see that the blur to the ball shows movement. Also, as I stated in the original post, it was dusk - any suggestions on how to better shoot action at dusk or am I being too picky on the lighting. My bad i forgot the lens in the op. Nikon 18-105, set around 45 ( i dont have the exif infront of me- sorry.)

I love the intensity and pose of the dog. And I like the movement in the ball v. the stop action of the dog.

The things that bug me a bit are: (1) that the ball is blocking a bit of the face; (2) the tilt and (3) the lighting - it's just a bit too late in the day, no warmth, etc.

All that being said, I think this is a memorable photo. If you could re-create and fix 1-3, that would be even better. But, it's still quite good as it is.

the angle you used is very interesting, if you have a chance to reshot, try doing it under the same angle, just do it in a different part of day, it definitely needs brightness
