Default TD!

Shot this one today. The QB scored a TD on a keeper. My critique is that I don't care for the trashcan right behind them, but not much I could do about that as I didn't know where the action was going to go. I like the expression on his face and the timing of the shot.

I want to hear your critiques.

Great snap. The garbage can is a drag, but as you say - pretty hard to predict everything.

Well the trash can is just one of those things like people walking in front of you just when you release the shutter... :P

Nice capture! Love the face also!

Trash can? What trash can? Do you see any?

From DPS

Nothing a little creative editing in Photoshop can't fix, as you can see. Clone stamp is your friend! Also did a slight curves adjustment and sharpened it a bit.

P.S.: Let me know if you don't like your photos edited, I'll take it down.

Thanks for the comments.

Stryker, Nice edit, but I shoot editorally, i.e. for the newspaper, so I can't use clone stamp on these photos as it changes the content of the photo.

To me, there isn't "enough" sense of "action".... A little motion blur or "bigger" action (i.e. being dragged down, 1/2 fall) would convey stronger.
If I study it I can pick up that it is a "frozen" action shot....otherwise it could almost be "posed".

It's still a good shot.

Thanks for the comment. I think the grass flying in the air and the "crunch" of the face at impact show the action for me. Additionally at this point, the ball is seen across the goal line indicating the TD, whereas a fraction of a second earlier wouldn't tell that part of the story. Here's one where I think your suggestion to show more motion applies better:

Thanks again for the comment.

As a side note, I just noticed there's a bit of unlevel feel on the original photo...needs a bit of straightening.

Oh OK, but the critique you asked for was about the trash can!

I really like the picture of the flying players. Did you happen to get a shot of the TD as it was developing instead of the kids laying on the ground afterwards?
