I like the crop definitely. To me it looks like the plane on the left is brought in from another picture. It's blurry while the two on the right look very sharp. I'm sure this isn't the case, likely just different distances away. Cool shot though.

@mpf777: Great shot. Nice crop. I agree the left planes look a little blurry and am guessing that's just the luck of the aim. It's not like they're just going to stop and sit pretty while you focus, is it? ![]() I remember the first time I used an SLR at an airshow....lots of dots. Lots and lots of dots. Except for the static displays. Got some good shots of those. Thanks for sharing!

It is two planes on the left but your shot reveals the secret to this amazing maneuver. The aircraft on the left are a lot further away from you than the 2 on the right. In formation they are only about 6' apart but a head on pass is about 2-300 feet apart. Makes it really difficult to get everything in focus.

@lputman- Thank You for the input and compliment.
@augiecrazy8 - Thank You for your comments, the plane on the left is definitely blurry. @dionv - Thank You for your comments. The only problem with the static displays is the all the people standing around the planes! I do once in a while manage to go to a static display early in the morning or late in the evening when it is not as packed though, you can also get some nice detail shots there.@jml79 - Yeah, I think the blurring of the left 2 jets are part what you are saying , the difference between how far out they all are, and I was panning with the jets coming from the right so I probably have some motion blur just on the 2 jets from the left by the time you figure in how fast they went by my lens. Funny thing is, I don't think I had totally realized it was both jets coming from the left till you pointed it out. These are a tough shot to get, one reason I caught it on this pass is I was not zoomed clear out to 500mm for this one. |

Mike........the crop is what makes the photo. My eye went directly to the planes and not having to travel around the open areas.

I wouldnt crop it at all... If anything, give it a little more space on the right side, OR if you must crop, crop away some of the left side, to use a little more of your rule of thirds...
The planes coming from the left side are moving essentially twice as fast as the ones on the right, since you were panning with them, which creates the motion blur that you are getting there... great capture!

Gotta agree with Jim. Love the crop and the trails draw you right to that point of tension where those planes look like they are about to meet. Nice!
