Default baseball at night Help

i would like to get some shots of my son playing baseball the problem is his game is right on dusk and one ground has poor lights im hoping the other one will give me better lights. I used my 55-200mm lense with 1.4 x tele convertor and mono pod, changed ISO but to much noise with not much more shutter speed, with flash same and no continious shoot. All of my shots have come out quiet dark and dont think i have one worth keeping this is the best of what i got,
Any help and tips would be greatly appreciated

f 5.3
shutter 1/800
ISO 800

You may want to lose the teleconverter and try to just get physically closer if possible. The teleconverter will eat up some light of its own. For stuff like that you're going to need a fast long prime lens to get high quality night shots. If there is a way for you to get an off camera flash down there that may help a bit.

I would agree with Cola, I have never used a teleconverter but from what I have read you loose at least a stop with it.

I have the D80 and I prefer to keep it at ISO400 or lower but I will go higher however I never like those shots as much. The main way I can think of to combat the high ISO is to shoot with a faster lens which from what you have listed in your signature is a 50mm 1.8. If you can get any good shots with that you might have better luck but that requires being able to get closer.

Depending on budget, I'd say the 200 f/2.8, 300/f2.8 (or even 400 f/2.8) lens would be the way to go. Of course, prices for those are $750, $4500, $8000 respectively.

Or, you could hire a local photog to take some shots for you.

You may also want to look into renting lenses locally, or by a reputable dealer for bigger games or any time you really want to get photos of a special occasion.

With your existing gear; .
I would ditch the 1.4 TC with the 55-200 - That will save you one stop.

Shoot aperture priority, or manual, with the 70-300 wide open.
ISO maximum or very high (1600?) at the least.
Shoot RAW to give yourself more control, especially noise reduction.
Take what ever shutter speed you can get..

If you find you have leeway then adjust ISO/aperture or shutter speed to what ever best meets your needs.
