You may never get the right white balance off the camera when shooting arena sports. The cycling of the lights will give you a different cast depending on what point in the cycle you shot at. Unless you shoot at 1/60th to match the cycle or use strobes to overcome ambient and white balance to that light, the best you can hope for is that it's not too bad.

I hadn't thought of taking into account the actual wavelength period of the of the light, which at faster shutter speeds might actually play a role and you might on capture a fraction of the full cycle of the light...

Sounds promising, but thankfully there is post processing for that

I don't have an independent flash yet and the TTL won't be good enough I suppose. The other issue with flash for our arena is that you can't really get close enough to the action without being behind plexiglass, so I am worried about flash reflections off the glass
