A shot from a local barrel racing and pole bending event.

Hi,
You have taken excellent shot with timings. Its clarity is too good. Good Photography. A true photograph need not be explained, nor can it be contained in words..

Nice pic. What was your question?

IMO, the picture would have benefitted from tighter crop and less DOF. If you could have gone wider on the aperture that would help, or going with a longer focal length would get the crop and shallower DOF at f/4. If neither was an option then post work can help.
I did a blur layer and erased the foreground, levels and crop.

I actually think this would be even better in landscape view with more room to the left.

I imagine you probably took with a kit lens, either one of those f4-5.6 70-300 or 28-200mm zooms. SO, there's not too much you can do to decrease the DOP. Here's how I would have cropped it to that the impact would focus on the subject more.
