Default First BBall Game

I've been interested in Photography for a long time but recently upgraded to an SLR, took my camera to a Basketball game (Great Britain v Macedonia) for the first time, thought I'd put a photo up and get some opinions/advice.

Camera - Canon EOS 450D
Exposure - 1/250
Aperture - f/4.0
Focal Length - 75mm
ISO - 1600

Thanks.

P.S I was focusing on the guy on the left so the playing at the basket wouldn't be in focus. I thought it was a shot not really seen from Basketball games, I was pretty happy with the outcome.

Your focussed on the player to the left, I assume that you want to focus on the player in the center if so your problem is probably that you have your focus points set to Auto, if you change this to just the center point, or whichever point you choose you can control what your camera focuses on rather than it choosing.

I should have explained further, this shot was intended to be like this, I was focusing on the guy on the left so the playing at the basket wouldn't be in focus.

I thought it was a shot not really seen from Basketball games, I was pretty happy with the outcome.

Sorry for the confusion and thanks for your reply.

I can understand how you like the photo; however, it isn't a keeper. If, by chance, there was some recognition of who the player is that is sitting down is, there might be some merit in the photo; otherwise it looks like a missed focus picture.

Generally, when shooting basketball, you need a shutter speed of at least 1/500 to stop action. The 85 1.8 is an excellent lens to use on a crop body for shooting basketball. This is what I used on a 1.6 crop because it is fast and the aperture can be opened up to allow for the faster shutter speeds.
