i just basically stood outside my street, and started experimenting. took a few shots before i got the timing down. took the photo i liked the best, tossed it into aperture 3, changed it to b&w, and made a few tweaks (contrast, exposure, etc).
![]() secret ravine by hyimted, on Flickr exif info: d90, 200, +.33ev, f/5.3, 4.0 but i don't really get a sense of motion from this. also, i kind of think the streetlamp and lights (on the right-edge of the picture) are too bright? for some reason, it looks like i can't post the actual picture? anyway, here's the direct link. Try going to an overpass over a major highway and shoot the cars that go by. It may take you a few shots to get the timing and exposre down, but it's fun and you can get some really interesting images. Here's my most recent effort:

If you were going for motion it might serve to see the original. Having black and white shots where you are catching the street lights as well as the headlights of a vehicle doesn't translate from what I can see to B&W. Can you post the original? It might convey the motion you were hoping for.
Also - maybe going somewhere that doesn't have a lot of street lights to illuminate the majority of the shot. |

Okay - that shot does convey motion as you can more clearly see the light ray from the headlights of hte vehicle.
You would still be a bit better served to go somewhere without all of the streetlights I'm affraid. |
