Default goalie: the loneliest man in hockey

My first experiment with my 55-200mm lens was getting a nice tight crop of my husband playing hockey. What I like is that you can see his eyes. ISO might be a little high, but its the only way i've been able to catch action while it's happening. this one is a little more "stand still" so there more noticable noise.

overall i think it came out OK... do you think the noise is too much though? Any other suggestions to make this go from an "ok" shot to a great one?

Nikon D5000
120mm
F/9
1/100 sec
ISO-3200
Shutter Prioriy
No Flash
lightly edited; I cropped it a bit, and adjusted the WB so it wasn't so yellow-tinted.

This is a great shot, the noise is fine and I don't think it detracts from the image at all. You could run it through some noise reduction software if you were to print it. I think your exposure and color balance look very good.

Noise is fine - D5000 is best in class for noise handling. Good shot in general, only slight crit is that the white uniform blends into the white background a little. Oh, and I might try cropping so there's some space on the right for the subject to 'look into'. It's a bit cramped.

I originally used PictureCooler, it is freeware and decent then SusanH turned me on the Noiseware Community Edition. It is also free and works better & easier. I upgraded to Lightroom 3 and the noise reduction in that is excellent and I can batch process the NR so that is what I use exclusively now. So if you don't go the lightroom3 route, check out noiseware:
