I love the moment.
However I have to agree the car is not super sharp either due to the focus or your panning being slightly off.

well done matey. I have done an odd occasions on panning and found it entertainingly frustrating but fun (especially when you get the results.. but I haven't had much chance of going into that style -- pity love how it comes out..

@ otromen

I have just written a short tutorial on panning. Even though don't noramlly shoot drifting you may find it handy.

I would say your second shot posted is much better than the first as the car is nice an sharp. The only thing I would suggest is composition, neither are great since in the first one you have an arm and in the second that fence. Particularly in the second one it would be a great image if it weren't for that distraction. I know it can be difficult when your not able to gain access to official areas but if you could try and move yourself to a slightly different location or angle you would probably get some great results.

I would check out the pictures as you take them and if you notice something distracting that you can't crop out later then try and adjust your position so that you can. I once shot nearly a whole night of racing before I realized there was a long stem growing up through quite a few of the shots that I didn't see looking at the area or through the viewfinder. Sometimes, particularly with a lot of action, our eyes will only see the obvious and miss the details than can make or break a shot.

This is difficult to shoot. The subject is not sharp enough and there is somethng on the right side that distracts the eye. But for practice, this is not bad.

Nice shot, yeah the focus is a bit soft, but it really shows what the sport is all about.

What was your shutter speed?

I've just put some drifting photos up on my flickr. I've got a few at 1/60 but it seemed to work best for me between 1/80 & 1/125.

Cheers
