I like the idea (i.e. composition). However, I think color would work better since the cars are colorful. More importantly, your focus is off. Looks like it focused on the fence and not on the cars.

I really like this shot. For me, this shot is more about the graphic nature of the repeating patterns than it is about documenting the cars. The pattern in the grass, the rows of cars, and the lines of the fence all work well. Shots of colorful race cars are almost cliche. The b&w helps emphasize these patterns and gives the shot a nice classic, retro feel. I say, well done!

I agree. The focus goes to the patterns - which are great. I really like it as a fine art piece.

that is wicked cool...it's all about the patterns!
for me i don't have anything that I think needs to change except maybe getting rid of the fence...i know that isn't realistic.

I think it is an excellent shot given the fact that you are limited to your seat in the stands. That is the difference between a snapshot and a photograph. A snapshot is what everyone is looking at and a photograph is seeing the same thing in a different way.

I like the focus on the fence. It gives a senses of separation, kind of like cages warriors about to do battle. I like the patterns between the rows and columns of cars next to the curved lines in the grass next to the checkered pattern in the fence.

I also like the flow of the photography the way it starts you at the top and the fence cars and grass all draw you down and out to the right.

I would be interested in seeing the color version to see how they play off each other. But quite frankly the black and white is more artistic and will result in a more timeless photograph.

The only thing I would have possibly liked more is if the first row of cars were not cut off at the bottom of the shot but that might interrupt the flow out of the photography.

Excellent shot. King Motorsport Photography -- John H. King
