I am interested in any and all photo critiques. I want to improve my abilities. Thanks.
I used a Canon 7D with the 18 - 135 kit lens that came with it. No flash and my ISO was at 2000, 1/100 and f6.3. Is there something I could have done differently to be able to increase my shutter speed and slow the blurring? I know a faster lens would have helped but the only other lens I own is a 50 mm 1.4. Thanks Glenn PS my granddaughter is the one in black wearing the red helmet. |

Thanks Wampler I was concerned about the noise that a higher ISO would have on the photos. I'll certainly give your ideas a go next tournament. I also know I need to practice my focus. I did much better during the Forms than I did the sparring regarding the focus. Man, I looked at your wrestling folder figuring the lighting had to be nearly the same for wrestling as it was for the karate (it was held in a school gym). Love your work! Thanks for the critique!

Flash will make all the difference in the world. Either that or a faster lens (f2.8 or better) to get you higher shutter speeds. As dark as it looks there, you'll probably need to shoot higher ISOs anyway. But I'd use a flash. If you can, off-camera flash (maybe two) would be even better but that's not always practical.

Thanks, the guy running the tournament said no flashes were allowed for fear of distracting the fighters? I don't know as it was my first karate tournament. I agree about the higher ISO but as I said, I'm concerned about noise?
Here is another photo from the same tournament. Thanks for all your ideas and critiques. |
