Default Soccer...exposure off?

First post here! I love that I caught the action of this shot but I am thinking my exposure might be off. Some of the others have a hazy too them.

Nikon D40
70mm
f/4.0
1/1000
iso 250

Thanks for any and all advice... I can only get better by my mistakes

Welcome to DPS!

I don't think the exposure is "off." But, given the fairly harsh/low angle of the sun, you were dealing with a situation where getting a good exposure can be difficult.

When I'm in a similar situation, I try to put the sun at my back - this way, I have a better chance of getting the player's/subject's face in the sun, and not in shadow. And for me, using spot metering in these situations helps. Sure, the trees in the background may be underexposed, but the subject has a better chance of being exposed correctly.

Here, the player in orange's face is in shadow, and therefore a bit too dark for my taste. Maybe you could lighten his face in post?

Other than that, just try to get more players' faces in the photo - not easy, but it does get easier with practice.

Because your photo is so large, I couldn't read what you said about hazy pictures?

Wow that was a big photo! sorry about that! fixed it

thanks for the advice. It was a late afternoon game and the sun was towards the back far side of me. Next time I will be more aware of the placement and the shadows.
