Default Sony A700 Problem with EyeStart AF

The a700 has an excellent improvement over the a100. The annoying but often useful auto focus linked to the view finder can now be now linked to a sensor in the grip. Mine does not seem to function. The auto focus reacts to the view finder even when the grip sensor function is turned on from the menu. This is annoying when the camera is on and focuses when anything moves in front of the view finder.

Any ideas or is my camer faulty?

Red face I am not sure ...

I have one of the original builds of the a700. The grip-Sensor in my camera DOES work when turned "on". There was discussion that non-US models of the a700 did not have grip sensors in them ... due to allergic reactions by individuals to their pure nickel composition.

Anyway, subsequent models may have mechanically "defeated" this feature in the builds.

Just a thought ...

But the way, if you do not want the eye-start feature to work, you should be able turn it off in the menu, regardless of the grip-sensor setting.

Thanks Don

I purchased mine in Australia (thanks to feedback on this site from you - by the way!)

The menu has the option to use the Eye Start function and also the with or without grip function.

I like the Eye Start feature for many situations - but the grip snesor will be particularly helpful.

Back to the retailer in the first instance, I guess, for a checkup.
