honestly you do not want to use a ultra wide angle lens for portraits. You will have to get pretty close to the subject to fill the frame. This will cause you to have a lot of distortion. Anyways I would recommend you use a 24-70 lens which will give you a good focal range to work with for portraits.

Look for SONY MOUNT Sigma or Tamron lenses. For example: tamron 28-200 vc sony.

Agreed with RexK_Cozumel not to use a UWA lens. You can consider this as well: tamron 17-50 sony.

Just moved this over to the Sony section. That way people with Sony cameras or who are familiar with lenses to use on Sony cameras are more likely to see it.

Thumbs up Thanks Nicole ... good move

@ cascadingshadows: I am a member of another website that has quite a few SONY members that can provide a wonderful discussion concerning the selection of lens for your α350.

You could visit it and save a whole lot of time, reading through some of the posted (sticky) material, then revisit this question, rather than wait forever for only a few (at best) to answer in this forum. I am not contesting one is better than another, just that the information is readily available if you use the link below.

I also recommend joining that forum ... and enjoying the membership and the knowledge base provided there.

Digital Camera Resource Page (DCRP) Sony DSL forum (<- click here)

Good luck
