Default A200 Bulb setting????

G'day all,

I've been trying to learn all I can about my new camera. One of the features I'd LOVE to be able to utilise is the bulb feature. I found it on the camera & bought a remote trigger & played with the bulb feature.

Now.... the shutter only stays open for 30 seconds. I thought that I press the remote once to open the shutter & another time to close it, but it closes itself after 30 seconds... EVERY TIME.

Can anyone tell me what the bl00dy hell am I doing wrong?

Cheers,
Dave

Are you using a cable release? Or a wireless remote?

If you're using a cable release, it's like using the shutter button on the camera: you have to hold the button down for the duration of the exposure (which is why there's a push'n'slide lock). If you're using a wireless remote, it should work with one press to open and one press to close (at least that's how my Canon works).

Also, does your display say 30" or "bulb"? You may need to be in Manual mode to scroll down to "bulb".

The remote is a wireless remote & I'm using the "bulb" setting in manual... Maybe I'm just really bad at it

Question Third Party problems ...?

Being third party makes the release questionable. It may be losing sync and just defaulting to 30-seconds.

If you can get a hold of a wired release, I'm pretty sure your results would be different. But, in my experience, you would have to place the wired release's shutter button in LOCK position ... then physically UNLOCK it when you were ready to halt the exposure.

I'd say do a test to see if it's the remote, by attempting to do a >30s exposure without the remote and just using your finger to hold down the camera shutter button. If the camera does bulb mode fine without the remote, then you have your culprit. If it still refuses to go past 30s, then it's the body....

Had a play with the cameraq over the weekend & the bulb setting works ok with my fingers. Therefore, the cheap remote from ebay doesnt have the bulb capability, though it was advertised that it does.

I'd say contact the seller and let 'em know you got a bum one. If this was a cheap remote off eBay, you may have just gotten a bad copy and exchanging it for another might fix the problem.
