Having had a look at the new DSLRs, and as you might have all read, they pretty much suck. Smaller, cheap and plasticy feeling. Really dont like them. I use an a200 and you couldnt pay me to trade it in for the 230 or 380.

Talking Absolutely, doesn't everyone?

It arrived, on 9/1/2009, three days after I ordered it.

I did some preliminary stuff with it and ... the best part, I am very pleased with the results. The A700 can only provide so much resolution, just like any of the other APS-C sensors ... but when you need to get a bit more ... the massive 24.6 MP Full Frame sensor is just about all you can do.

It turns a pixelated image into a more refined and detailed one. I like it.

AA2, my advice, based on the past three years of doing this ... if you're really interested ... go right to Full Frame and enjoy your photography to its fullest, most robust capability. How's that for a kick in the pants? Why did I wait ... oh yeah, the A900 was a little TOO expensive. The A850 is more ballpark, this time, and provides nearly the same features.

Good luck with whatever you decide ... but looking around from the top of the heap, through this beauty ... ain't so bad.

Lightbulb I know that beginning ...

Believe me when I say I full recall beginning in photography and what it can cost. If you get "serious", this is not a lightweight expense. Good optics cost money.

But, then again, my suggestion is ... if you get serious, you should consider a Full Frame. I mean, chances are you will eventually arrive at this decision, but if you can cut to the chase ... so much the better. Save yourself some money doing the "baby-step thingy."

It would have saved me three years of putzing around with APS-C sized sensors and all the tom-foolery that goes along with it. The a100 and the A700 cost me $2500, together, when I started. Going straight to the A850, right now ... $1999. Hey, hind-sight is 20-20, right?

So ... I give that costly experience away and say ... "Full Frame ... it is the wave of the future and can save you a few bucks along the way."

For what it is worth. This is an equal opinionated forum, right? Opine!
