I haven't ordered the cybersyncs yet so I was unaware the cable was included. Thank you for the information.

In the Box: The transmitter comes with a button battery installed and a short cable to connect it to a PC port. The receiver also comes packaged with a longer (4') mini plug to PC cable.

Here is a link to a discussion concerning the device

Alienbees CyberSync Radio Triggers - A Review - PentaxForums.com

I use PocketWizard Plus II transceivers, myself. They also come with these cables included and come with a pair of standard "AA" batteries, which I think are heck of a lot more common to get and replace than "button" batteries.

Smile thanks!

So I was obviously way behind in testing it all...but thank you so MUCH for the help in finding the right control combo to get my flashes to cooperate together. I have way more playing around to be comfortable with it and get all my ratios worked out for different scenarios but the flash obviously wasn't broken and Sony help should learn the codes to make the two play well together.
So my next question is...is there an easy and/or relatively inexpensive way to have the HVL-F58AM trigger the HVL-F56AM without relying on the infrareds being able to see each other? Are there radio triggers that would work? I'm wanting to have the F56 in a softbox and am concerned that I won't be able to get the infrareds to see each other.

Lightbulb RF Wireless

Okay, you need to acquire a couple items for this and do not think you can save much more than I am recommending to get a reliable flash system together.

1) Three PocketWizard Plus II units.
2) Two FS-1200 Hot Shoe Adapters (<- click here) from Gadget Infinity
3) One FS-1100 Hot Shoe Adapter (<- click here) (this offers a PC-sync trigger port to your camera's hot shoe if you not have an a700)

Instruction on how to make this work:

At the camera:
a) Place the FS-1100 adapter on the DSLR's hot shoe
b) Connect one of the Pocket Wizard II Plus units to the pc-syn port of the adapter

At the flashes:
c) Place the FS-1200 adapter on the base of the HVL-F58AM flash
d) Place the FS-1200 adapter on the base of the HVL-F56AM flash
e) Attach each remaining PocketWizard to the sync ports of the FS-1200 adapters.

f) Turn on all the power (at flashes, DSLR and the PocketWizards.
g) Make sure the PocketWizards are ALL on the same channel selection.
h) watch for simultaneous winking of the red LEDs on the PocketWizards, which means they are all "talking" to one another.

i) Press the "TEST" button on the PocketWizard unit attached to the DSLR. The flashes should BOTH trigger.

Commence fire for effect.

Default studio lights

What if I need wireless set up for my studio softboxes.....do I use the same approach as with general wireless Sony Flash or is the whole set up different?
I also heard that Falcon Eyes TR-1 infrared sync device together with FS1100 (or equivalent) can solve flash issue for studio, has anyone used such set up?

The FS1200 is compatible with the minolta/sony maxxum style flash. It was designed to use Minolta Maxxum flashes on cameras that have the old style ISO hotshoe flash mount.

So while it will hold your Sony flash, and has a PC Sync connection, it is difficult to attach to a light stand or tripod. This is an example:

Hot Shoe Adapter 4 Sony HVL56AM Minolta 5600 as FS-1200 - eBay (item 110403514353 end time Nov-08-10 19:25:00 PST)

I use the following two items to mount my Minolta flashes to light stands:

Sony to Sony with sync PC Adapter

Tripod to Sony/Minolta flash stand (foot)

I use the FS1100 on my A200 to mount my Flash Radio Trinsmitter

For studio strobes, I have a Pocketwizard Plus II (PW+II for short) for each one, as the sync trigger. Then there is a PW+II for tha camera and that is the over link system. All you need is a pc-sync cable to a hot shoe adapter (FS1200) most SONY low-end DSLRs ... or the pc-sync port (a700, a850, a900 cameras) on the high-end DSLRs.

This should provide the proper 'RF' wireless sync for studio lighting. 'Infrared' is problematic outdoors and under bright lighting. 'RF" is much cleaner to use.
