If you want a good, solid portrait lens ... you could try a SONY 50mm f/1.4 (<- click on this link) or a TAMRON SP AF 90mm f/2.8 Di MACRO (<- click on this link) ... which has excellent sharpness. If you have a small fortune at your disposal, the CZ 85mm f/1.4 (<- click on this link) lens is a dandy, but it's bigger borther, the CZ 135 f/1.8 (<- click on this link) is a most serious contender. If you like serious bokeh control in your portraits, the manual focus 135mm f/2.8 STF (<- click on this link) [Smooth Trans Focus] is like nothing else. I hope this was helpful. Remeber, zoom portraits may be okay ... but, PRIME lens (fixed focal length) are simply great. Last edited by DonSchap; 03-02-2009 at 03:44 AM. |

You have me at a disadvantage ... I have no idea what lenses you already have.
The 75-300mm f/4-5.6 lens is not all that much better than the 18-70. Both were extremely cheap to manufacture and do not return the results you probably are looking for. There are two primary lenses that will do the most for your photography and you will be able to use as you climb through Alpha camera bodies. Opinions will vary, but I have found truly acceptable results with:
Both of these lenses cover about 90% of your general shooting and are bright enough to eek by indoors, on the A200, A300 & A350 cameras w/o necessarily having to employ a flash. Click on them and give them the 'once over.' They are a good return for the money. |

You need to detail the distance you are from your subject(s). The TAMRON SP AF 17-50mm f/2.8 XR Di-II LD Aspherical (IF) (<- click this link) is a tremendous lens for the price. It will provide you with good group width.
