Default Problem shooting indoor with H5

I have had this H5 for a couple years now and have never been able to get good indoor shots with it, I have been using an older Kodak P&S but that camera seems to be dead now.

So the problem is that with the flash, pics are way too bright and washed out. Without the flash, they are too dark.

I just use the "Auto Adjustment" setting (the green camera on the dial).

Has anyone else had this problem? It seems ridiculous that an above average camera can't take a decent indoor pic!

Thanks in advance for any help that anyone can offer!
Rob

I'm not familiar with that camera. Can you control the output of the flash? If so, then you'd need reduce it.

Thanks Lori!
I did find that if you go into one of the maual modes you can reduce the flash output and that seems to have solved my problem.
Wish I had found this site a couple years ago!
Thanks again!!!
