I've recently purchased a Sony A200 which came with the standard 18-70mm lens.
Can anyone tell me the best lens to buy for portrait photography!? Also any advice on the 'Beercan' 75-300mm lens would also be much appriciated! Thankyou.....

The standard that is regularly recommended is the Minolta 50mm/f1.7. Read about it here:
http://www.dyxum.com/lenses/detail.asp?IDLens=17 I have a Sony 50mm/f1.4 which is excellent. Last edited by demody; 10-25-2008 at 10:27 AM. |

Hi, for my 2 pence, whenever I've seen a 1.4 on ebay (very rarely), they go for quite a bit. I have the 50mm 1.7 and it's one of the sharpest lens I own - I absolutely love it and use it for all my portraits (it's best from around 2.2) You can still pick them up on ebay fairly cheaply.
Don't know about the 75-300 beercan but have been looking for a 70-200 beercan for a while. Should have bought one last year as all the good second hand glass is going up in price, presumably with the release of all the new alphas. Still - it's cheaper than buying it new! Let us know how you get on. Last edited by WhiteChristmas; 10-26-2008 at 09:46 PM. |
