Default 50mm lens - 1.4 or 2.8 macro

I have recently upgraded from the a100 to a700 and am looking at making my next purchase - a 50mm lens. Which would you recommend out of the 50mm 1.4 and a 50mm 2.8 macro?

I was originally thinking the 50mm 1.4, and it's also about $150 cheaper. But would I regret not getting the macro later on?? I really have no idea which is the better lens. I would mainly be using it for portraits at this stage.

Thanks
Kylie

I don't have much experience with a 50mm 2.8 macro, but if you plan on using this for portraits, I think a 50mm f/1.8 would be better. I'm not sure if the price is worth it for the f/1.4. When I bought my 50mm f/1.8 I debated about whether or not I should pick up a 50mm f/1.4 instead. I was told to first learn with the f/1.8, master it, learn its weaknesses, and then go for a f/1.4 if I needed it. I've had it for about a year now and I love it. Great for portraits. I can't think of a real need to get a 50mm f/1.4... but that's my opinion.
