    Question Your longest A-mount lens

What focal length is your longest Alpha-mount lens?

Are you planning to go longer, in the near future?

Have you ever had issues with long glass, other than weight? You know, "non-weight issues?"

    Cool Okay, I'll go...

    SONY a850 riding on a Celestron NexSTAR 2032mm f/10

This is my standard "walk around" lens. When I whip this baby out, they tend to know I came to play! Admittedly, it is a little rough doing close-up work, as the closest you can get for a focus is 29-feet!

    That's, like... way over there.

The entire rig weighs in at 15 lbs. About the same as a regulation bowling ball.

    Unhappy The Power-Chomper

I've been using the SONY 70-400mm f/5-6.3 G SSM for the past 2 years and I've found that it tends to consume the camera's battery power by intensely more than any other lens I have. It is a heavy-weight lens (54 oz) and all the torque needed to move the internal heavy optics during focus really do have their power penalty.

"All dressed-up and everyplace to go"

While the 70-400G is, indeed, a sharp zoom lens and hard to beat for focus speed and accuracy, it will be battery management that will be your important deciding factor if you decide to go "afield" with it. Fill your pockets with a few more battery packs.

Sigma 150-500mm HSM and what seems like the rest of the alphabet. Have to be careful when wandering around because of the length.
