Arrow Sony a77 Vs Canon 5D Mark II

I put together a Gallery with a bunch of real world photos using both cameras. I think you will be hard pressed to tell which camera took what shot if they were not labeled as such

Ok I'll play with the troll.

1: The A77 is 3 years newer. That means 3 years in sensor technology, processing technology, etc.
2: the images are not identical, so there's no way to compare.
3: images are edited, so no way to compare. Editing changes a LOT.

At web-sizes its hard to see the differences between any two cameras. You could probably compare the A77 to a D40 under these same conditions and not be able to tell the difference. Furthermore, at 21 and 24 megapixels, when downres-ed to this size, further erases differences.

Check.

You've conclusively proven that 3-year old full-frame sensor technology is still better at high ISO than your touted sensor. Yes, the Sony is just under half the size, but it's still suffering considerably. Noise levels arent terrible, but there are example shots that show how the Sony is changing colours and losing dynamic range as the ISO ramps up.

Primary example of this is here. Left is Sony, right is Canon.

Even at these sizes, it's obvious. Blowing them up (Sony, Canon) makes things worse. Im also confused as to how you got 1200x1200px for the Sony and 908x908px for the Canon. 3mp difference isn't THAT much.

Hate to say it: the Sony a77, while good at low-iso, just cant compete past iso800. Just like Sony's older full-frame sensor, it'll be fine in a studio, and maybe for landscape work at low ISO and with quick enough shutterspeeds. Otherwise? not so much.

I've said it in other threads: 24mp on a DX sensor is just too damned many. It's silly, and there's no need for it. It's equivalent to 48mp on full-frame, and we'll likely never see that. Canon was pushing it enough with 18mp on their x1.6 sensors (~38mp full-frame), but Canon's processing is also better than Sony's.

Dont be brand-blind.
