Hi guys,
I would be grateful for some advice please. I have a Sony Alpha 350 DSLR camera with a Sony 18-70 mm lense. Since the last few days the lense seems to have developed a problem. It's making very loud "whirring" noise when I connect it to the camera. I noticed that the issue is with the 'auto focus', but not under 'manual focus' setting. Also can some one advice me as to which brand lens should I look for a "70-300" lens that I want to buy.I am looking for a better alternative/substitute to the "Sony 75-300mm lens". Many thanks in advance guys. Shri09 |

Most of the third party lens makers have one or more 70-300mm lenses in the line. Konica Minolta made several lenses in that range for the Maxxum cameras, and those lenses fit and work on the Sony Alphas.
The Dyxum Forum has a large lens review section, comments and ratings by owners of lenses that can be used on Sony A-mount lens database (lenses for Minolta and Sony DSLR cameras). Do your research and select according to your needs and budget. Good luck, Phil Sigma seems to have some problems in relation to Sony cameras, but they do make very good lenses.

I had the same problem one year ago. The lens is about to die. It's not a very good lens. Mine died 11.5 months after purchase. I sent it back and Sony sent me a new one, very quick return. I can't help you with the 70-300 you are looking for. I picked up this spring the Sony DT18-250. It's a wonderful all around lens, great for vacations pictures. I don't change lens' anymore. Anyway, your Sony 18-70 is gone. Don't buy the same lens as a replacement, it's junk. Nice pictures, but it's made of really cheap plastic. CaptDave |
