Smile A330 - Comment on this

Hi all,

I've recently purchased an Sony Alpha A330, original pack (kit lens, and everything else common for a beginner) and a Tamron AF70-300mm F/4-5.6 Di LD Macro Macro lens.
I also have put a eye to an Quantaray 28-80mm F3.5-5.6 lens, its really cheap, a bargain, but should i buy it?

I wanted you Sony's followers and A330 owners to make a quick review or tips on this one.
Really looking into start shooting!
What else must i tell you? I'm into wildlife, macros, landscapes mostly!

Cmon everybody, comment on this!

I was really hopping to get one or two comments, but not even that?!
I guess admin could just erase this one.

I don't know much about the Sony Alphas (many of us are unfamiliar with them, which is probably why you got no comments -- hold your horses!).

But I can say that Quantaray lenses are cheap for a reason. I'd save my money and get something higher quality. With lenses, you really get what you pay for.

I shoot A200 and A700. I love them and my older Minolta Autofocus lenses. Though I have not had any experience with the A330, I think that it would give at least as good results as the cameras I own.

For information on lenses that fit the Alpha Cameras, look at the Dyxum Lens Database:

A-mount lens database (lenses for Minolta and Sony DSLR cameras)

I recently received a Minolta 28-85, f3.5 to 4.5 and am pleasantly surprised at the quality. It seems, to me, to be a very underrated, therefore under priced lens. Although a bit slow for some indoor work, I used it outside extensively on our trip to Colorado and New Mexico.

My other 'workhorse' lens for the trip, Minolta 100-300MM f4.5 - 5.6.

Don't fret about the Sony. I purchased the a200 kit with the 75-300mm lens and I have not had any problems. Some of the shots I have taken have rivaled the Nikon's my friends use.
I am still learning alot about the camera and I have owned it for 3 years now.
Sure I have thought about upgrading to a newer camera, but then what? I would have to keep buying new accessories for it.
I would constantly be upgrading to keep up with the technology, and not be spending time doing what I love to do and that is to take pictures.
I have been very pleased with what I have been able to do with my camera.

I don't know anything about the lens, other than to agree that you get what you pay for. I also have an a330, though this week I purchased a used a700, and every lens I've purchased so far has been a Tamron and they're outstanding lenses.

Thank you all for replying

Yea, i know there is a good used market for old minolta glass!
I would really love to explore this and make some new acquisitions, but i guess around here in Portugal that market is not that big...

Well, i've got soo much to learn about dSLR's

Default hey!

hi!
I've got a Sony a330 with 75-300mm lens and I am still starting off as well.. may be just 5-6 months.. Anyways I'm content with my a330 as well as the lens.. I haven't purchased and other lenses yet so don't know about the lenses that much, but I think the DSLR I bought has been the best yet.. I love it and it's one of my prized possession!

For a lot of good tips and techniques on photography, I am enjoying Scott Kelby's book(s) "Digital Photography". There are 3 volumes, though I have only partially read the first one. The Amazon link is below:

Amazon.com: Scott Kelby's Digital Photography Boxed Set, Volumes 1, 2, and 3 (9780321678737): Scott Kelby: Books: Reviews, Prices & more

There are lots of good books on photography, and this forum is a big help too.

Have fun,

Phil
