Dear friends,
I have purchased Sony DSC-H50/B in last July from Sony Center, Kolkata, India. I have taken around 4500 snaps. Yet I am not satisfied with my photography. Is I am so bad learner or my camera? I am really confused that, is this camera able to take really good shots in manual mode unlike DSLR cameras in it's price range [Sony DSLR-A230 or Nikon D-3000] ? Because this camera is in the same price range like above dslr and I purchased it because I scared about dslr functions and huge size/weight. Friends please guide me what shall I do now? Will I keep this camera and get really good pictures? Basically I love to travel so I need good camera, this was the basic essence of my photography. I will be obligated to resolve my mental agony. Kindly have a look the photographs taken by me at Flickr & Picasa and advice me Flickr: AMITAVA RAY's Photostream Picasa Web Albums - AMITAVA RAY â„¢ AMITAVA RAY . |

Comparing a Prosumer camera like HS-50 even with an entry level camera is unfair. DSLR are in a different league but do remember that good photographs need not mean you only require good equipments. You have a good camera for now. Consider reading the manual & knowing your camera inside out. Try using MANUAL mode extensively & try to understand the effects of different shutter speeds, apertures, ISO etc. Read about composition in photography. Then after you're confident enough you can move on to an DSLR if you wish to. Also the number of snaps taken do not in anyway signify one's expertise. Even one who is having less than 4500 shots can take a brilliant image & one having 10000+ snaps may likely to take a bad image. Be patient & keep practising. Good photographs will come out on their own.

Like Bruno and Gaurav stated, you have to learn to use and work with your camera.
I have this camera, and I love it. I have used it for about two years now and I think it's a brilliant camera especially for a beginner who's willing to learn more. You can take great macros and zoom real far (the zoom is my lover especially in music festivals). I'm not into big DSLRs at all and I like the versatility of my camera without having to spend ridiculous amounts of money on different lenses and stuff. Surely, whether this camera is right for you or not, depends on what you want to do with it. Still, I'd suggest you to really get to know your camera inside out before you give up on it. After all, the camera in itself never makes a good photo, the photographer holding the camera does! Check out my photostream for my photos taken mostly with Sony Cybershot DSC-H50 =) |

Dont give up on that H50, I bought one and loved it. I did end up buying a A330 DSLR, but only because I wanted to get into manual focusing, RAW files and a wider selection of lens choices. I still have my H50 and wont part with it. I love the lens capabilities, the zoom is amazing. A great travel camera in my opinion, though it is very hard on batteries compared to the DSLR. I have to say, many DSLR owners I met were very impressed with its capabilities.
