Default Sal2875

Does anybody here have a SAL2875?
I'm just wondering about opinions on it.
It would be great if someone has used one on an A200.

Lightbulb Opt for the TAMRON

My advice, in regards to this particular lens is to opt for the TAMRON SP AF 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di LD Aspherical (IF) lens instead. You will probably save nearly half the cost of the SONY and get the same exact image out of it! That leaves you some serious cash to get a nice ø67mm Circular Polarizer (I recommend Hoya or B+W) filter for it.

Buy smarter. Just sayin'

Thanks for the advice Don, unfortunately up here in Montreal, it's really hard to find lenses for alpha bodies. And usually the sigma's are more expensive then the sony originals (no idea why). As for Tamron, it's a real rarity to find them with an alpha mount.
What do you think of the Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 DG Macro EX?
I need a fast lens in that range for band photography (I don't use a flash as it can annoy the band and the fans).

There appear to be no reviews of the Sony lens, however the minolta looks to be a similar lens:

Minolta*AF 28-75 F2.8 D*2696-810 lens for Sony Alpha - Minolta camera mount

and the sigma:

Sigma*24-70 F2.8 EX DG Macro*548-205 lens for Sony Alpha - Minolta camera mount

Plenty of reviews and sample images to wade through there.

Lightbulb Reconsider the better SIGMA 24-70 lens

The better choice of SIGMA is the AF 24-70mm f/2.8 DG EX HSM IF lens over the macro. It is quiet, faster and sharper by all current measurements. If you are going to buy a new lens, get a good one. It is about half the price of the SONY CZ 24-70mm f/2.8 and is darn near identical in performance. That's getting your money's worth out of your photography ... and a much better overall strategic move as you grow your lens bag.

Now, I am not suggesting you get this lens from B&H (<- click here), but their return policy is pretty sound. If the lens does not do what you want it to ... send it back.

Photo4less
(<- cick here) has it about 8% cheaper, if you want to go that route.

B&H also have the TAMRON 28-75 (SONY mount) for a reasonable price. You don't always have to buy in Canada.
