Default Dead, Almost Dead, and Living from the Dead

Just a few shots from a walk through the trails at Campbell Valley Regional Park. I had a hard time getting inspired at first, but then put on my zoom lens and started shooting some close-ups of dead/ dying plants. I don't mean to sound dismal, but that was what stood out to me in terms of interesting. I apologize for any graininess as i had to shoot between 400-800 ISO as there was not a lot of light, and I did not bring my tripod. Next time! For those who have been following my work, I decided to use colour as I found it worked for these images. I hope you enjoy these.

Thanks Shirlie. I love that shot, but it took me about 10 attempts to get one i liked. This was hand-held at 250mm/ 1/100 sec. I had to hold my breath to get it.

Thanks Jim. I like this shot, but i think my fav of this set is the first one. That leaf was caught up in some twigs of another plant, and the lighting was great for detail and subtle shadows. Cheers.

When I looked at these again, I can understand why the mushroom shot is winning people over. Thanks windrider.

I'm another big fan of the mushrooms - great lighting & great DoF.

When taking shots like these - you might find it easier to squeeze the shutter as you slowly breath out after holding your breath. People tend to tense up when breath holding - tense all the way to their fingertips - which often results in stabbing at the shutter. When you breath out, a "wave" of relaxation helps you be gentle with the shutter.

That said, breath holding obviously worked for you in this shot - congratulations!
