As this forum is named this is the place to just share your shots...
Please stick to using "Share Your Shots" for images you don't want detailed feedback on, either because you are very happy with them and don't want all the "rotate it, crop it, adjust the colours" comments that frequently come in a critique or because you don't think your picture stands up to detailed examination (eg. it was a quick snap taken with a friends point and shoot which you like despite the technical failings). For people posting images: 1. To keep it fair for everyone, PLEASE just only post one thread per day. If you post more than one thread within a 24 hour period, moderators and admins reserve the right to delete excess threads. 2. Please post no more than four images (or five attachments) in the beginning post. Further pictures (same numbers) can be added after a further 24 hours or after at least two other people have replied to the thread. 3. Please keep images to 740px on the longest side. Mods reserve the right to resize oversize images or delete them until resized. This is easy to put up the proper size if you use flickr. If you feel it is necessary for us to see a larger size, link to it. Also, please note that with the sheer volume of threads that get started some threads may get lost in the masses. If you don't get the attention you feel you deserve, how about trying to give a little time to other people's posts as a positive way to respond? BTW, if you request critique on one of your threads, moderators and admins reserve the right to move the thread to a more appropriate location (using just the first image posted). For others, if you'd like to respond to the post you might like to:

One thing I've noticed since we did some reshuffling and created a whole "share your shots" area rather than relying on one mammoth thread is that some people are posting pictures and asking for critique.
If you want critique we have the (greatly expanded) critique section where you can post one picture a day. We hope that by throttling the flow of new critique requests each submission will receive some useful feedback. By putting threads in the right places we hope that we can accomodate the increased number of members without the site losing its friendly, helpful feel. Thanks, Wulf

*bump* Just a quick bump of the Share Your Shots rules since they have been updated. Please take the time to have a read through whether you're posting images or responding to images. We've clarified a few things to hopefully make things easier for everyone to understand what Share Your Shots is all about.

I do think it is very nice to look at photos that are beautifully done. However, I feel that (I don't know if this post already exists) it would be a greater learning experience if the person who took an outstanding picture, would explain in detail how it was taken so we can also learn how to do it.
For instance, I saw the photo of the red dahlia that was taken in the nursery with a black background. I would love to learn how the background was created, i presume in Photoshop. Nadine |

There are other places for people to explain things in detail - for example "How I Took It". "Share Your Shots" is for when people want to share one or two pictures but, for whatever reason, don't feel inclined to explain them further.

i'm writing to apologize for not knowing the rules when i first came to this site.
i know them now, but i've noticed that people that are new don't know the rules at first and yes, they should probably read them before posting, but maybe we should all just cut them some slack. from past experience, not knowing the rules seemed to have made some people mad. there's no need to get frustrated at the people who don't know the rules because that just makes them feel almost like they're not welcome because they did something wrong. if you are going to tell them what they did wrong, do it in a polite manner or just let them figure it out themselves. so what they post a couple of pictures in the wrong place..? this website is all about learning let them learn their mistakes without being criticized just be patient |

I know what you're saying, maybe if I put it like this - you don't just buy a car and drive it - you have to know the rules first?... (Imagine the roads)
We let some rules slip, we may as well let them all slip - you start to get 25000 people all wondering why one person gets away with not reading the rules and, then, we have a sort of photographic anarchy on our hands (which sounds interesting but not fun) I hope this makes more sense? Sime |
