Default Week of 2 January - Newness - 14/53

January 1 - Newness - 14/53

This is a baby cockatiel that my aunt is hand raising. He is so cute and is incredibly warm - like a fuzzy little hot water bottle. It was very hard to get a sharp shot of him. There was very little natural light and he is a wriggler. My sister was doing all she could just to hang onto him.

Default Week of 3 January - Cold - 15/53

January 03 - Cold - 15/53

How to depict cold in the blazing height of summer - what else is there but ice cream. In this case a rainbow paddlepop, a perennial favourite. It;s a fairly standard shot because I couldn't think of what else to do with it.

Default Week of 10 January - Breakfast - 16/53

10 January - Breakfast - 16/53

A boiled egg for breakfast in one of the egg cups I brought back from Turkey. Preferably a breakfast egg should have a runny yolk, this one was left for just a smidge too long. Photographically, I like the texture in the photo in the egg white and the shell.

Default Week of 17 January - Macro - 17/53

17 January - Macro - 17/53

You can only go so macro without a macro lens. So I just did what I could. Rameses here was kind enough to pose for this close up. Fortunately, he is an easygoing kind of a sheep. I wish the lighting had been a bit more balanced. The detail of his right eye was lost in the shadows.

Default Week of 24 January - Tired - 18/53

24 January - Tired - 18/53

If you ever wondered what a kangaroo settling down for snooze looks like, it's something like this. I used a long lens for this one, so the depth of field is a bit shallow to keep the shutter speed up.

I realise that this photo is quite similar to last weeks. So this will be the last animal photo for a while.

Next week - sleep.

Default Week of 31 January - Sleep - 19/53

Civic, Canberra

I guess someone might have slept on this bed at some point, but it is not an enticing prospect. This is a photo I took last year in one the alleyways of Canberra (the photos I post are usually taken in the week of the theme, but this week was impossible). I desaturated some of the colour - which I think better conveys the atmosphere.

Next week - body parts.

Default Week of 7 Feb - Body Parts - 20/53

7 Feb - Body Parts - 20/53

It was hard to know what to do for body parts. In the end, I went to a local bric a brac store where I knew they had some old mannequins. I like that the legs look like they are dancing.

Next week - romance (booooo!)

Default Week of 14 February - Romance - 21/53

14 Feb - Romance - 21/53

Romance showmance. Beer and dumplings, what more could a girl ask for!!

Street food and street photography are two of my favourite things. The hardest thing I find is to get a good composition in front of a clean background. The composition here could be better, but overall I think it is okay. Sometimes you just have to take what you can get.

Next week - spirit.

Default Week of 21 February - Spirit - 22/53

21 Feb - Spirit - 22/53

Meet the Spirit of Ecstasy - the hood ornament of the Rolls Royce. I tried to keep a fairly high contrast to keep an intensity to the image. The car was stationary, but I like how the reflections give an idea of movement.

Next week - vegetables.

Another effort at street photography. I had to take this quickly to dodge the intervening traffic. I like the contrasting blues. I think it adds vibrancy.
