Default Moscow Photo-Souvenir Project

I've been living in Moscow for about a year now, and expect to stay here only a few more months; possibly as little as 2 more. Chances are I won't be back, except for possibly fleeting visits. So while I'm here, I'm going around shooting all the locations I want to have a photo-record of when I leave, plus possibly some street life etc.

My main target so far has been the amazing metro system... justly famous for its architecture. Couple of examples here...

Комсомольская (Кольцевая)

Сретенский Бульвар (Люблинская)

...but I'll also be doing parks, buildings, famous landmarks etc; here's one of a park:

Парк Победы - Victory Park

I'll be posting all my shots on Flickr and describing any interesting experiences in the process on my photo-blog, links below if you're interested!

Wow- thanks for sharing! The detail they put into those train stations is amazing. Looking at the artillery, the park looks like a memorial to the Great Patriotic War (WWII)- is this so?

Thumbs up

I was there, but without camera.
Great inspiration, but everything is huge and hard photographing.

Yup that's right. Here are some more from the same park:

Парк Победы - Victory Park
The obelisk is 142m high, 10cm per day of the war (in the Russian version of the start & end dates).

Парк Победы - Victory Park
It reads - "Member Countries of the Anti-Hitler Alliance" - France, Russia, America, England

Парк Победы - Victory Park
Monument to the victims of Hitler's death camps

After a few weeks off, this is my next instalment

There's a particular building I can see from my apartment (it's actually just over 3 miles away) that I've been shooting as a horizon shot, such as this -
Sokol Tower

...but I finally got up close, and it's pretty grand, as I've tried to capture here -

amazing shots and architecture! I like the angle you have taken the third shot with the placement of the gun and the wall curving around, and I really think that the snow really adds to the sombre mood of the place.

Thanks for the kind comments!

Another weekend, another instalment! This week I've been wandering round trying out my shiny new 24mm f/1.4, pushing what I can get handheld in low light. Here's what I came back with...

The strangely named Peking Hotel, complete with Statue of Liberty accessory (huh?)...
Peking Hotel

...and a strangely shaped, er, "thing" outside my apartment:
Тишинская Пл

(Actually it's meant to be a monument to Russian-Georgian friendship, so not exactly topical just at the moment).

More on flickr and wordpress, links below.
