It's a fun technique to experiment with. You did it well. My critique would be why are we drawing attention to the shirt and the mantle? I would be more inclined to highlight her blue eyes or some other small element. As it stands, our eyes are drawn away from the subject by the prominent colors and the bright color tends to 'wash out' the black and white elements, particularly in the case of an attractive woman with fair hair and skin. But regardless of this criticism, it's a very nice portrait.

I do love this pic but I have to say that when doing selective coloring you have to be picky. I personally (only my opinion) think that you should stay away from coloring clothing because it distracts the eye away from the subject. I usually do the eyes maybe the lips, if they have on nail polish maybe a toy a baby is playing with. I do small things just because it looks cool but is not distracting. I have two photos that I have done selective coloring on in my profile take a look. There is also a group for selective coloring (also can be found on my profile) they have lots of good ones there that can give you some extra insperation. You did a wonderful job on this picture. Don't get discouraged and try again. Trust me we need people doing this kind of photo most on here do not like selective coloring. lol I was told to stay away unless interested in doing post cards lol. Anyway great job.
