Default Lomo style portrait

I took this of two of the guys in my band - I particularly liked the facial goofiness going on in the shot. I was bored in Photoshop and tried adding a lomo-type effect - what do you think? Critique on composition and anything else is awesome too, I'll take anything.

I'm not too sure about what lomo is, but I like the look The flash shadows are a bit sharp and distracting... could you shoot them further from the wall?

I like the shadows on the left guys face, but the right guy looks like he's unsure of what to do. Shooting multiple people is always hard in my opinion.

Anyways photography-wise, the right guys face is a bit blown. This by itself isnt too bad, but because the rest of the image is quite shadowing and dark, the brightness of the guys face really screams for attention, and detracts from the image as a whole. Seems like it might be better to bounce the flash (or lighting) rather than directly 'painting' it onto the guy.

In PP, i think you could probably do something with a bit of clever dodging, or layer masking. It would vastly improve the image if the right guys face had a similar effect on it as the left guys face.

drr0b: "the lomo effect' is a particular effect that is/was achieved with a Lomo camera - it was a pretty shoddy russian (?) camera which often had light leaks and stuff like that - its hard to describe what it looks like, so google it on google images. Often people would shoot with a particualar type of film and then crossprocess it (use developing chemicals other than the ones you were supposed to) eg slide film was often processed with C41 (colour film) chemicals.

I might just paint the background right out....effects are cool but I always crave balance. I think it would look better if the effect was the same on both faces.
